Right from the start in 1999, the Bethesda Big Train experience has been about far more than baseball. The goal of our founders was to build community through baseball. Years ago, the Bethesda Big Train began to invite community nonprofits to come out to Povich Field to showcase their organizations. Since 2009, the Big Train Nonprofits of the Night program has been supported by the Jim and Carol Trawick Foundation.
Each participating nonprofit receives:
- 100 free tickets. Some organizations use the tickets as a fundraiser, others distribute the tickets to clients, volunteers, and staff. Ticket values are $9 for adults, $7 for students/military/senior and $5 for kids (5-12).
- A table on our concourse to set up a display and space for a banner to promote the organization. Some groups hand-out information, others recruit volunteers.
- Recognition in the team's game night program.
- A representative is announced to the crowd to throw out a ceremonial first pitch just before the game starts.
To apply to become a Big Train Nonprofit of the Night, please contact Bruce Adams at Bruce@greaterwash.org.
Once your group is accepted, you will be given a choice of home games to choose from. All of the Big Train home games start at 7:00 pm with the first-pitch ceremony starting around 6:45. Gates open at 5:30 pm so please plan on arriving by 5:30 pm to ensure enough time to set up your table. You will also need to email your logo and a short paragraph about your organization to Davids@bigtrain.org.
Sign ups for 2019 will begin in the middle of March.
