Ty France (BT '13) was named the Mountain West POTW.
The San Diego State Aztecs continued their dominance in the Mountain West conference this week, led by a group of Big Trainers to a 3-1 record on the week. Ty France (BT ’13) continued to display his dominance for the third consecutive week, demonstrating that he’s one of the conference’s up-and-coming stars, going 6/14 with a double, two home runs, two walks and seven RBIs. Andrew Brown (BT ’14) also had a big week for the Aztecs, carrying the team past the University of Nevada on March 8. Brown went 3/5 with a double, a stolen base and four RBIs. On the mound, Bubba Derby (BT ’13) pitched his way to his second win on the year, giving up three runs over five innings, striking out three batters. In the bullpen, Justin Hepner (BT ’13) gave up no earned runs in 1.2 innings across two appearances, striking out one.
While the High Point Panthers had just two games this week, that didn’t stop some former and future Big Train players from putting up some quality numbers. Outfielder Cody Manzella (BT '14) went a combined 4/8 at the plate with a home run, a sacrifice hit, two RBIs and three runs scored. Catcher Josh Spano (BT ’13) also contributed a hit, two walks, an RBI and two runs scored.
On Wednesday, VCU and Virginia Tech squared off in a game that saw a collective 35 runs scored. While VCU would go on to score 21 total runs, Virginia Tech’s Luis Collazo (BT ’13-14) managed to hold the Rams to just three runs over five innings, striking out four batters. At the plate, VCU’s Logan Farrar (BT ’13-14) had a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.
