On Tuesday night, the Bethesda Big Train hosted the Baltimore Dodgers. The last time these two met, the Big Train won in a close 3-1 battle. This time, however, the Big Train stormed to a 18-5 victor. Jake Valdez (St. Mary's College (CA)) received the starting nod, surrendering two runs on five hits while striking out seven batters in five innings of work.
In the 1st inning, the Big Train put a crooked number on the board scoring three runs on one hit. Stephen Alemais (Tulane) scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on an error by the Dodgers. Andrew Brown (San Diego State) hit a two-RBI double after Chris Lewis (Sacramento State) and Cody Brown (Mississippi State) walked to get on base.
The Dodgers struck for one run on a solo shot in the third inning to cut the gap to 3-1.
However, the Big Train added the run back in the bottom of the inning when Cody Brown doubled home Brandon Lowe (Maryland), who singled to get on.
In the top of the 5th, the Dodgers hit another solo home run, cutting th lead to 4-2.
The Big Train answered the Dodgers run with two runs of their own. Logan Farrar (Virginia Commonwealth) got a hold of one over the right field fence for his first homer of the season. Then, Brandon Lowe scored on Cody Brown's second RBI double of the game. The Big Train led 6-2 going into the 6th inning.
The Dodgers crossed the plate two more times on three hits in the 6th, to put the Big Train lead back to 6-4.
The Big Train answered with four runs in the bottom of the 6th. Brandon Lowe hit an RBI single scoring Logan Farrar, who walked. Cody Brown hit his third double of the game, this time, clearing the bases, accumulating five RBIs on the night. Cody Brown later scored on a throwing error by the Dodgers pitcher.
In the top of the 8th inning, the Dodgers scraped across one run. The score going into the bottom of the inning showed Big Train over the Dodgers 11-5.
The Big Train scored seven runs on three hits in the 8th inning, putting the game way out of reach. Albee Weiss (Cal State Northridge) hit a grand slam to extend the Big Train lead to 18-5.
