Big Train College Round Up: 3/26/2015

By:David Schneider
Brandon Lowe (BT '14) was named Big Ten Player of the Week

This week’s college round-up will feature a few Big Train players that have yet to be mentioned in previous weeks.  The players are working hard for their respective teams, hoping they can fight their way into the College World Series.

Brandon Lowe (BT ’14) is continuing his incredible season for the Maryland Terrapins.  He has posted a .402/.513/.690 slash line this season (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage).  This shows he is hitting for contact, power, and getting on base other ways.  Lowe has nine doubles, two triples, and four home runs to go along with his 18 RBI.  This week, he earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors.

Down one state, at Virginia Tech, Luis Collazo (BT ’13-15) earned his first win of the season against Radford, while coming out of the bullpen.  Kit Scheetz (BT ’13-15) also earned his first win of the season this week.  In the win, Scheetz allowed three runs over seven innings.

This week at Radford, Michael Boyle (’13) earned his 3rd win of the season.  In seven innings, Boyle struck out seven.

Brandon Barbery (BT ’15) of Virginia Military Institute had another great outing on the mound.  This week against Wofford, Barbery went 7.1 innings, striking out six, while not allowing an earned run.

George Mason had a great week from Brandon Gum (BT ’12, ’15).  Gum posted seven hits, while knocking home five runs.

Josh Thorne (BT ’14-15) lowered his season ERA to 1.69 for Stetson.  This week, Thorne had his longest outing of the season against Long Island University, going 3.2 innings, while allowing no earned runs.

At Cal State Northridge, Albee Weiss (BT ’14) is starting to pick it up from the plate.  This week, he went on a three-game hitting streak that included his first home run of the season.  In a 6-1 win over Dartmouth, Calvin Copping (BT ’15) pitched a complete game, striking out 11 batters over the whole nine innings.

Brandon Hunley (BT ’15) out of Sacramento State has hits in 11 out of the last 12 games.

Kevin Tatum (BT ’13-14) is having a very good season at the plate.  He is leading his team in batting average and RBI, while starting every game for Cornell.  He is batting .333 and has eight RBI.

High Point’s Will Resnik (BT ’12-14) has lowered his season ERA to 1.17.  Resnik has not let up a run since his first appearance of the season.  Cody Manzella (BT ’14) has seven hits and four RBI this week.

Stay tuned for the official Bethesda Big Train 2015 team roster coming soon.  The season is only a few months away and we look forward to having you out at the park.
