Big Train College Round Up: 4/3/2015

By:David Schneider
Sean Labsan (BT '14) pitches his 9th strike out of the game against #6 UCF

This week’s round up tells the tail of the seventh week of the college baseball season for our Big Train players.

Cal State Northridge has put together a solid season.  Thus far, their pitching staff is ranked in the top-10 in all of Division-1 in ERA.  Calvin Copping (BT ’15) is part of the reason for this.  In his last outing, Copping went six innings while allowing only two runs.

Chris Monaco (BT ’15) out of Virginia Tech earned his second win of the season this week.

This week at Eastern Michigan, Tony DiLeo (BT ’14-15) accumulated three RBI on four hits.

Michael Boyle (BT ’13) and company have led Radford into first place in their division.  In Boyle’s last start, he went 7.2 innings, allowing four hits and no runs, while striking out six batters.  His ERA is now 2.36 on the season.

Florida Atlantic continues their hot season.  This past week, Sean Labsan (BT ’14) led the Owls to an upset over #6 Central Florida.  Central Florida is a top three team in runs scored this season, but Labsan held them to one run on four hits with a career high 10 strike outs over six innings of work.  Labsan allowed a home run to the first batter he saw, and did not let the opponent score again.

Out in Mississippi, Cody Brown (BT ’14-15) and Wes Rea (BT ’14) gave the Mississippi State fans something to cheer about.  On March 31, Cody Brown had a four hit game, raising his season average to .326.  Wes Rea had a home run and two RBI this week.

Brandon Barbery (BT ’15) pitched his way to a victory against Samford this past week.  In 6.2 innings, Barbery allowed one earned run on two hits while striking out an astounding 10 batters.

Maryland’s Brandon Lowe (BT ’14) had two home runs this week, giving him six on the year, while batting from the leadoff spot.

Stephen Alemais (BT ’14) of Tulane is on a seven game hitting streak.  This is the longest of the season for a good Tulane squad.  Alemais has added 17 stolen bases on the year.

Ty France (BT ’13) of San Diego State earned the California Bank and Trust Student Athlete of the Week award.  He hit .630 with five RBI over this stretch.

At Cornell, Kevin Tatum (BT ’13-14) has raised his season batting average to .343, knocking in eight batters this week for the Big Red.

Be prepared for the unveiling of the 2015 Big Train roster.
