Kevin Tatum (BT '13-14) lines a hit for Cornell Big Red
The ninth installment of our College Round Up for the 2015 baseball season is a good one. Several Big Train players are on hitting streaks and others are producing with additional playing time.
UNCW catcher, Nick Feight (BT ’14-15), now has six base hits in 20 at bats, including two doubles and a home run.
Kevin Tatum (BT ’13-14) out of Cornell is leading the team with 23 RBI on the season, while starting every game for the Big Red. He has also posted a team leading .350 batting average.
Andrew Witczak (BT ’15) had another good outing for Campbell. In six innings, Witczak allowed no earned runs.
Maryland has a host of Big Train players who are performing well. Zach Morris (BT ’13) earned his third win of the season this week. On the season he has a 1.93 ERA in 18.2 innings of work. Brandon Lowe (BT ’14) has continued his great season from the plate posting an eye-popping slash line of .377/.497/.692 (Batting Average/On-base Percentage/Slugging Percentage). Freshman, Jack Piekos (BT ’15), has pitched 1.2 innings of zero earned run baseball.
Sacramento State’s Chris Lewis (BT ’14-15) and Brandon Hunley (BT ’15) hit very well form the plate this week. Lewis accounted for seven RBI including two home runs and a triple. Hunley added a two-RBI game himself.
Starting the majority of the games at catcher for Cal State Northridge, Albee Weiss (BT ’14) went 1-1 with a three-run home run in his last game.
Brandon Gum (BT ’12, ’15) has posted the longest hitting streak of the season for any Big Train player. Currently on a 12 game streak, Gum is batting .349 on the season. Tyler Tobin (BT ’15) has gone three straight outings in relief without giving up a run.
Matt Toscano (BT ’15) out of St. Mary’s College (CA) had a three hit, three RBI game in his last appearance as a leadoff hitter for the Gaels. In the same game, Drew Strotman (BT ’15) earned his first win of out of the bullpen.
At Mississippi State, Cody Brown (BT ’14-15) is on an eight game hitting streak that includes four multi-hit games. His average is up to .339 on the year. In the Bulldogs last game, Wes Rea (BT ’14) logged three hits including a home run.
Pitcher, Michael Boyle (BT ’13), has posted very impressive numbers on the mound for Radford this year. He is 6-2 with a 2.21 ERA, averaging a strikeout per inning in the starter role.
Florida Atlantic has seen a very consistent approach at the plate from Ricky Santiago (BT ’13) who has posted a .353/.425/.526 slash line for the Owls. David McKay (BT ’15) has hit the 10-strikeout threshold in 10.1 innings of work, while allowing a meager two earned runs. Mark Nowatnick (BT ’15) has allowed three hits and no walks in 4.2 innings of work this season.
