In a shortened seven inning game, the Big Train no-hit the Giants, allowing just a fourth inning walk and a sixth inning hit batsman. Drew Strotman (St. Mary’s College of California), Tyler Tobin (George Mason), Walker Sheller (Stetson), and Luis Collazo (Virginia Tech) struck out a combined thirteen batters, as the Giants managed to hit just three balls out of the infield. The closest they came to a hit was a fourth inning line drive to third that was caught by a leaping Harrison Crawford (Creighton).

Meanwhile, the Big Train offense tallied six runs and 11 hits off of the Giants pitchers. At least one Big Train batter reached base each inning, but they were held scoreless through the first three innings. Their first big opportunity to score was in the third, when they loaded the bases with two outs on two singles and an error. However, Crawford popped out to end the threat. In the fourth, they did capitalize on their opportunity, when Jim Beater’s single to right-center scored two to give the Big Train a 2-0 lead. After a scoreless fifth, the Big Train plated insurance runs in the sixth, on a two-run double to deep right by Beater. They added two more in the inning on a two-run double down the right field line by Brandon Hunley (Sacramento State), taking a 6-0 lead into the seventh.

Notes: Sheller and Collazo each struck out the side; Sheller in the fifth and Collazo in the sixth…the Big Train take on the BCC Little Train in another exhibition Sunday night…their season opener is Tuesday at Rockville and the home opener is Wednesday at 7:30 against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts.
