Big Train hosts summer camp and its collegiate baseball team in the summer.  But, you might be wondering what Big Train does during the rest of the year.  In totality, Big Train attends around 50 community events during the year.  This includes everything from walking in parades, to reading books with elementary school kids and collecting canned foods for Manna food to setting up a table at Imagination Bethesda.  Our mascots, Homer and Bunt, love to make special appearances and are always happy to make anybody’s day better.

In the past two weeks, Big Train has been a part of three different community events; Strut your Mutt, Reading Under the Stars, and the Potomac Day Parade.

Strut your Mutt was an event at Black Hill Regional park in Boyds, Maryland.  It is an annual dog walk and festival that supports the local rescue groups and shelters.  Homer was a huge hit, making friends with hundreds of dogs, and leading the pack at the start of their 5k run/walk.  Homer was able to play with dogs, cut the starting ribbon, and get a belly rub from a dog masseuse.

Reading Under the Stars took place at S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Germantown, Maryland.  The school set up multiple tents on their playground and kids could hop from tent to tent listening to stories read by special guests.  Some of the guests included Spinny Johnson, a meteorologist, and high school football players from Seneca Valley.  In our tent, the Assistant Principal read scary monster stories to the kids, and Homer acted out the story for the kid’s enjoyment.

The Potomac Day Parade was another fun event.  Big Train got to walk in the parade, while Bunt tagged along throwing candy out to all the kids on the side of the road.
