![]() Luis Collazo is one of the many former Big Train players to be starting off their college season on the right track. The college baseball season is about three weeks old now, and some former and future Big Train players are making significant contributions to their respected ball clubs. This article will feature some of the most notable starts.
Appalachian State
Stephen Schoch (BT ’15-16)
Schoch has notched 17 strikeouts in 11.1 innings and sports a 2.38 ERA.
Bowling Green State
CJ Schildt (BT ’16)
In 15 innings pitched, Schildt has a 1-1 record, sporting a 2.40 ERA, striking out 14 batters.
Creighton
Daniel Woodrow (BT ’16)
In the leadoff spot, Woodrow is batting a hot .415 with one triple and five RBI. A demon on the base paths, Woodrow already has seven stolen bases and seven runs scored. Keith Oren (BT ’16)
Oren is batting .353 with two doubles and six RBI.
Florida Atlantic
Sean Labsan (BT ’14)
Labsan is helping the Owls as a batter and pitcher. He is batting .302 including three doubles, two triples, one home run, six walks, and seven RBI. He has scored a team-leading 13 runs. In five innings on the mound, Labsan is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA, totaling eight strikeouts.
Brandon Rhodes (BT ’14) Rhodes has been dominant on the mound so far posting a 3-0 record with a miniscule 0.90 ERA in 20 innings.
David McKay (BT ’15) In 14.1 innings pitched, McKay has a 2-1 record with a 4.40 ERA and 22 strikeouts.
Mark Nowatnick (BT ’15)
In 6.2 innings, Nowatnick has yet to allow an earned run. He holds a 1-0 record and has struck out six batters.
Jacksonville State
Clayton Daniel (BT ’16)
Daniel is off to a hot start, batting .372 with one home run and 10 RBI. He has also walked six times and scored nine runs.
Andrew Bechtold (BT ’15)
Bechtold is batting .243 and already has four doubles on the young season. He has added six RBI and seven walks. Justin Morris (BT ’14-16)
Morris is hitting .211 with two home runs and 5 RBI.
Cody Brown (’14-16)
Brown is hitting .304 is doing his job of getting on base, accounting for three doubles, two triples, and six walks. Blake Smith (BT ’15)
In 7.1 innings pitched, Smith is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He has allowed only allowed two hits while striking out nine.
Sacramento State
Chris Lewis (BT ’14-15) Lewis is hitting .244, and has accounted for three doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 8 RBI.
Vinny Esposito (BT ’16)
Esposito is hitting .306 with two doubles, one home run. He has driven in seven RBI.
San Francisco
Harrison Bruce (BT ’13) Bruce is hitting .321 and has scored nine runs. He has accounted for four doubles, four RBI, seven walks, and three stolen bases.
Brock Larson (BT ’12-15) In 8 innings, Larson has yet to give up an earned run and has stuck out four batters.
South Florida
Phoenix Sanders (BT ’16)
Sanders has pitched 17 innings and struck out 25 batters on his way to a 1-0 record and 0.53 ERA.
Stetson
Walker Sheller (BT ’15)
Despite a record of 0-1, Sheller has 11 strikeouts and 10 innings and holds a 1.80 ERA Erik Wiebke (BT ’16)
Wiebke has pitched 15.1 innings and struck out 12 batters. He is 1-1 with a 1.17 ERA Logan Gilbert (BT ’16)
The hard throwing Gilbert is 1-0 with a 2.80 ERA. He has struck out seven batters in 10 innings.
St. Mary’s (CA)
Zach Kirtley (BT ’15)
Kirtley is hot so far this season, batting .385 with three doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI, and 12 walks. He has also scored 13 runs for the Gaels. Johnny York (BT ’16)
York has pitched 21 innings and holds a 2-1 record.
Tulane
Stephen Alemais (BT ’14)
So far, so good, for the preseason pick as one of the top short stops in the country. Alemais is batting .462 including five doubles and 11 RBI. He has added five stolen bases.
Luis Collazo (BT ’13-15)
Collazo has pitched 1.1 innings and struck out three of the four batters, without giving up a run. Kit Scheetz (BT ’13-14)
Scheetz has been dominant to start the season. He is 3-0 in 18.2 innings and sports a 0.96 ERA. |
