Preview - Big Train Seek to Make It Five Straight Against Giants

By:Carolina Velloso
The Big Train coaches have been a key component of the team's success.

Riding a four-game winning streak, the Big Train will look to make it five on Saturday against the Gaithersburg Giants.

The Big Train have uncharacteristically struggled at home this season, playing to a 6-5 record at Povich Field before Friday's game while going 10-1 on the road. Locked in a 3-3 tie with the T-Bolts for the last five innings, the Big Train's winning streak -- and the chance to follow up two road wins with a victory at home -- was up in the air.

In the bottom of the tenth, the Big Train loaded the bases for Zach Jancarski (Maryland), who just missed a walk-off grand slam on a towering shot to left-center field. Jancarski ended up with a single, but it got the job done and sealed the Big Train's 4-3 victory.

"Zach is a great player," manager Sal Colangelo told Ben Portnoy after the game. "It's nice to look in that dugout to see someone like Zach you can put in the game to come through."

The last time Bethesda and Gaithersburg met, the Giants handed the Big Train their first - and so far, only - loss on the road, a heartbreaker the Big Train dropped in the eleventh inning on June 21. The Big Train did, however, beat the Giants, 7-2, at Povich Field on June 10. The Big Train will look to take advantage of their past success at home against the Giants this season to win consecutive games there since June 12-14.

The first pitch at Povich Field is at 7 pm. Be sure to come dressed up as your favorite character from a galaxy far, far away for Star Wars night! The game will be live-Tweeted (@gobigtrain) and broadcast by Max Wolpoff and PJ Glasser (mixlr.com/big-train).
