Preview - Big Train Wrap Up Homestand With Doubleheader vs. Grays

James Outman (Sacramento State) hit his League-leading 8th home run on Saturday.

Winners of five straight, the Big Train wrap up the weekend’s home stand with a pair of games against the Grays on Sunday.

With victories on Friday and Saturday already under their belt, the Big Train have the chance to pad their home record even further with the doubleheader. Although they have struggled a bit at home in 2017, winning there is especially important to the Big Train players, and is an extra source of motivation.

“It means a lot [to win at home] because we have a lot of host families here, a lot of supporters that donate their time and money to the program,” catcher Mike Emodi (Creighton) said. “It’s nice giving them what they deserve and giving them a few good wins.”

The Big Train can put up another two of those wins on Sunday. They are certainly in a good position to do so, having beat the Grays in both of their previous meetings this summer. On June 8, the Big Train eked out a narrow 5-4 victory. June 23’s win was much more comfortable, with the Big Train routing the Grays, 7-3. Meeting for the final time at Povich field this season, the Big Train will look to build upon this weekend’s success to sweep the Grays in all three contests on their home turf.

For manager Sal Colangelo, the key to accomplishing that is fairly simple.

“We’ve just really got to stay focused, do what we need to do and we’ll be fine,” Colangelo said.

The first pitches are scheduled for 4 and 7 pm. The games will be live-Tweeted (@gobigtrain) and broadcast by Max Wolpoff and PJ Glasser (
