Preview - South Champion Big Train Square Off Against T-Bolts

By:Carolina Velloso
Kevin Milam (St. Mary's) had 4 RBI and pitched 6 strong innings in Wednesday's win.

With a 10-4 win over the Alexandria Aces on Wednesday, the Big Train took the top spot in the South for a third straight season.

“To be division champs, it gets harder and harder every year,” manager Sal Colangelo said. “We have a good team. The guys were resilient and battled hard. We came in and did what we needed to do.”

The newly crowned 2017 South Division champions close out the regular season with a two-game homestand, beginning with a matchup against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts tonight.

The Big Train have the chance to sweep the season series against the T-Bolts tonight, having won their three previous contests. The 15-22 T-Bolts are in fourth place in the North division and are still in the mix for one of the six playoff seeds.

By winning their division, the Big Train will receive a bye into the semifinals, which begin on Monday. For now, though, Bethesda must focus on finishing the regular season off strong.

“We want to stay on a roll,” pitcher/designated hitter Kevin Milam (St. Mary’s) said. “You don’t want to check out, because then you get out of your groove. We’re rolling pretty good right now, so we want it to stay that way.”

“We might give some people a rest, but we want to win,” Colangelo said. “We’re going to get people some playing time and we’re going to have some fun.”

The first pitch at Povich Field is at 7 pm. Come celebrate Superhero Night dressed as your favorite hero! The game will be live-Tweeted (@gobigtrain) and broadcast by Max Wolpoff and PJ Glasser (mixlr.com/big-train).
