Big Train host FCA Braves on Player Family Night at Povich Field

By:Owen Krucoff
Bethesda's Carson Taylor has recorded multiple hits in each of his last four games, including a big home run against the Baltimore Dodgers earlier this week.

After capturing a win in Loudoun County on Thursday over the Riverdogs, Big Train (23-4) will return to Bethesda on Friday to host the FCA Braves (12-13).

The Braves sit in second place in the Ripken League South Division behind Big Train, but are 10 games behind Bethesda’s blistering pace. Big Train could potentially clinch the division title and/or a playoff berth as soon as Saturday if all results go its way.

Big Train has a 2-0 lead in the season series so far against the Braves, having won in Annandale, 10-7, on June 13 and in Bethesda, 6-2, on June 23. After Tuesday’s contest, the teams will meet again in Bethesda on July 10 and in Virginia on July 20 to close out the regular season.

Alec Burleson (East Carolina) is scheduled to start on the mound for Big Train. In 14.1 innings pitched, Burleson has 12 strikeouts and an 0.62 ERA. If chosen to play designated hitter as well as pitcher, Burleson could be threat in both halves of the innings. He leads the Ripken League in batting average (.492), home runs (8) and hits (33).

Herndon’s projected starter is Ryan Remo, who has a 4.40 ERA in 16.1 innings pitched. Outfielder Vinnie Costello leads the team in home runs (3) and RBI (14).

First pitch on what will be Player Family Night at Povich Field will be at 7 p.m. Updates will be available on Twitter (@gobigtrain) and Instagram (gobigtrain), as well as by listening to the Big Train radio broadcast under the “Watch Live” link on the Big Train homepage.
