Big Train College Round Up: 4/9/2015

Logan Farrar (BT '13-15) batting .319 for the VCU Rams

The college baseball season is over half way complete.  We are able to see glimpses of excellent ball players working hard to make it to the professional level.  It is exciting to be able to see such talented baseball players right in our backyard at Shirley Povich Field.

Brandon Lowe (BT ’14) is having an incredible year for the top-20 ranked Maryland Terrapins.  Lowe is leading Maryland in almost every offensive category.  He is batting .385 from the plate, with 10 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 26 RBI, 40 runs scored, and is leading the team in walks and hit-by-pitch.  Zach Morris (BT ’13) is having a solid year on the mound for the Terps, pitching 16 innings in 10 appearances, posting a 2.25 ERA and 2-1 record.

Nick Feight (BT ’14-15) is seeing his first action for UNC Wilmington this season.  The talented catcher has six hits, four walks and six runs scored in 16 at-bats.

At George Mason, Brandon Gum (BT ’12, ’15) is hitting .355 from the plate, recording 17 walks, and 19 RBI for the Patriots.

Out at San Diego State, Andrew Brown (BT ’14-15) has started every game of the season for the Aztecs.  He is batting .283, accounting for 10 doubles and 17 RBI.  Ty France (BT ’13) is leading the team in both batting average and RBI, proving why he is one of the best hitters in the country.  France’s average stands at .394, while he has compiled 33 RBI.

Logan Farrar (BT ’13-15) is continuing his success at the plate for the Rams.  He is batting .319 and has an On-base Percentage of .417, making him a very tough out in the top of the order.

Cody Brown (BT ’14-15) out of Mississippi State has not missed a step since he won the hustle award for Big Train in Summer 2014.  He is batting .333, has scored 24 runs, and hit for 11 doubles, 14 RBI, while walking 19 times.

For Radford, Michael Boyle (BT ’13) is now 5-2 with a 2.18 ERA on the season.  In his last start, Boyle went eight innings with 10 strike outs, allowing one run off three hits.

Florida Atlantic is having a great year in due part to Big Train former and new players.  Ricky Santiago (BT ’13) is killing from the plate, hitting .343 with 13 doubles and four home runs.  Santiago has added 17 walks and leads the team in total bases at 73.  Brandon Rhodes (BT ’14-15) has started seven games this season, and in 44 innings, has posted a 1-0 record with a 2.86 ERA.  Newcomers to Big Train, Mark Nowatnick (BT ’15) and David McKay (BT ’15) have made solid impacts in their relief appearances.  In 4.2 innings, Nowatnick has only allowed one earned run on three hits, while McKay has allowed two runs in 6.1 innings.

Newcomer, Andrew Witczak (BT ’15) out of Campbell, is 2-0 on the season in nine appearances.  In 22.1 innings pitched, he has posted a 2.82 ERA.

Will Resnik (BT ’13-14) out of High Point has posted a 1-0 record in 11 appearances out of the bullpen.  Surrendering a meager two earned runs in 12.2 innings pitched.

At Tulane, Stephen Alemais (BT ’14) is playing just as he did for Big Train in Summer 2014.  He is batting .338 with eight doubles and 18 stolen bases.  Tim Yandel (BT ’13-15) is 2-1 in seven starts, posting a 2.85 ERA in 41 innings of work.

Ryne Willard (BT ’13-14) is batting .297 with seven doubles and two home runs for N.C. State.

We are just over a month away from the first exhibition game for Summer 2015.  Can’t wait to see you all out at the park.
