The Big Train was well represented on the West Coast this week, as multiple Big Train alumni put together top-notch performances. Third baseman Ty France (BT ’13) played a key role in the team’s offensive success, going a combined 7/14 with four RBIs, four 2Bs, two walks and two runs scored. On the mound, Bubba Derby (BT ’13) made his first start of the year, giving up just one run and striking out seven across eight innings. Andrew Brown (BT ’14) also scored what would prove to be an important run as a pinch runner in the team’s narrow 8-7 victory over UC Riverside on Tuesday.
Back east, pitcher Bo Logan (BT ’12,14) was named Florida Atlantic’s Athlete of the Week, as he struck out six batters in 5.2 innings of relief across three games. Other former and future Big Train arms had strong showings as well for the Owls this week, as Cody Mizelle (BT ’13) and Brandon Rhodes (BT ’14) each threw two shutout innings in their respective appearances.
At George Mason, outfielder Tucker Tobin (BT ’11-13) kept his hot bat going, helping the Patriots win a day/night doubleheader against Wichita State and UConn on Saturday, going 4/10 with an RBI and a run scored.
