Excellent Pitching Lifts Big Train Over T-Bolts, 5-2![]() Sean Labsan went 5 2/3 strong giving up only three hits. The Bethesda Big Train (22-5) played host to the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunder Bolts (10-17) on an overcast Wednesday night. Sean Labsan (Florida Atlantic) took the mound to start the game for Bethesda and in five and two thirds of an inning he gave up three hits and one earned run while striking out six batters on the way to a 5-2 victory. Throughout the night, Labsan continuously got ahead of batters pounding the strike zone hard with fastballs.
In relief Ray Lambert (Cal State Northridge) pitched two and a third innings and faced the minimum number of batters, seven, while giving up no hits and no runs and striking out two batters. Tim Yandel (Tulane) pitched the 9th inning for the Big Train and secured the lead giving up one run while striking out two.
It was not until the 2nd inning that the Big Train recorded their first hit. But, after a single by Kevin Tatum (Cornell), a walk by Justin Morris (Maryland), and Ryne Willard (N.C. State) getting hit by a pitch, Cody Manzella (High Point), from the nine spot, lined a single right through the middle of the infield scoring both Tatum and Morris to give the Big Train an early 2-0 lead.
The T-Bolts scored a run in the 6th inning to put the score at 2-1, Big Train.
The Big Train stretched the lead to four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Justin Morris reached base on his second walk of the night and advanced to third on a bloop double hit by Cody Manzella. Stephen Alemais (Tulane) then roped a double down the left field line to score the two giving him the sole possession as the league leader in hits with 37 on the season. Logan Farrar (Virginia Commonwealth) then hit an infield single which scored a hustling Alemais from second base on a fielding error made by the Thunderbolts catcher.
