Big Train Scores Big with Summer Camp

A record 502 kids attended Big Train camps in 2015
The Bethesda Big Train Baseball Camp returned for the 17th summer in 2015 and once again proved to be one of the best and most affordable summer camps for kids in the Washington, D.C. area.  More popular than ever, the Big Train Camp had its highest registration numbers of all time with 502 kids attending nine weekly camp sessions, nearly double the attendance from 2012.

Big Train Camps uncompromising growth can be credited to its affordability within the market, unique learning experiences from top NCAA collegiate baseball players and coaches, and a strong belief in teaching kids of all skill levels. With registration open for ages 5-12, Big Train Camps provide an inclusive atmosphere that is not only fun but informative and focused on improving every camper’s skills on the baseball field.

Kids from all over the area (Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia) come to Bethesda every summer for Big Train Camp and many of them enroll for multiple years.  The experience of learning straight from some of the top college baseball players around the country is unique to these camps and many of the Big Train players cherish the opportunity to teach the game of baseball to the next generation.  Nine former Big Train players have gone on to debut in the majors including 2015 MLB All-Star Brian Dozier.  With five League Championships, numerous Regular Season Championships, and a recurring roster of top collegiate talent, Big Train camps offer an unmatched level of baseball instruction and experience.

Back by popular demand, the 2015 Big Train Celebrity Baseball Camp was a huge success.  This weekly session combines all the great benefits of our General Camp with the opportunity to meet with Washington Nationals players.  This past summer, over 100 campers met and got autographs from Washington Nationals players Drew Storen, Tyler Moore and Aaron Barrett. Teddy from the Racing Presidents also made a surprise visit and held a mock Presidents Race with all the campers in the outfield!

Big Train Baseball Camp remains under the leadership of the Bethesda Big Train summer collegiate baseball team and BCC Baseball Inc. After a historic summer for the camp, Big Train management looks to not only repeat the success of last year but find new ways to improve the camp in all areas. In 2013, we introduced a daily lunch option for campers provided by our concessions operations manager and in recent years we have vastly improved our before and after care program so that parents have more options for pick-up and drop-off and kids are well supervised and having fun.

After a historic year at Big Train Camp, the 2016 summer seems far away but there is plenty of work to be done. Whether you’re a parent of a past camper or looking to try the camp for the first time, make sure to monitor our website and social media accounts and sign up for our e-newsletter at the top of our homepage to get information on new camp discounts to be released during the holidays and throughout the year.  Please email camp@bigtrain.org if you have any questions and see everyone in 2016!
