In his second year playing for Big Train, the right-handed relief pitcher from Stuart, Florida, senior, Josh Thorne, has become one of Bethesda’s favorite players. Thorne nearly doubled the amount of votes than the next closest vote getter.  

Thorne, who in 2014 was named to the second team all-Cal Ripken League, had another very solid summer in 2015. Thorne made 15 appearances, the second most on the team, and posted a 3.76 ERA while earning one save. In 14.1 innings, Thorne only walked six batters. He gave up seven runs on the year, and six of them were earned.  

Josh Thorne’s best outing of the season came in his most important appearance. In the first game of the Championship Series against the Baltimore Redbirds, in the game that went 15 innings, Thorne was tasked with pitching the 11th and 12th innings. And he was stellar. In the 11th, a batter reached base by way of dropped third strike, and Thorne induced an inning ending double play to the next batter. In the bottom of the 12th inning, Thorne got himself into a 2-out bases loaded jam. Pinch hitter, Marty Costes, worked a full count and Thorne got him to fly out to the first basemen. Thorne pounded his chest as he stomped his way to the dugout, where the rest of the Bethesda players hooted and hollered as the game continued onto the 13th.
