College Baseball Round Up (As of April 6) Big Train shaking hands at 2015 exhibition game Florida Atlantic is now ranked 12th in the country and holds a 22-4 record. Pitchers, David McKay (BT ’15), Brandon Rhodes (BT’14), and Sean Labsan (BT ’14) have accounted for three of the top four inning totals on the Owls roster. Labsan is 5-0 with a 0.41 ERA and has also contributed from the plate, averaging a hit a game, and recording 13 RBI. Also, in 12 innings pitched Mark Nowatnick (BT ’15) boats a 1.50 ERA.
For St Mary’s (CA) shortstop Zach Kirtley (BT ’15) has been dominant. In 25 games, Kirtley’s batting splits are .407/.526/.692 (Batting Average, On-Base Percentage, Slugging Percentage). He has 37 hits including 11 doubles and five home runs. Kirtley also leads the gaels with 21 RBI and 19 walks.
Phoenix Sanders (BT ’16) of South Florida is 3-1 in seven starts posting a 1.96 ERA in 46 innings. He has 51 strikeouts to 11 walks.
At Stetson, catcher Austin Hale (BT ’16) has played in all 29 games for the Hatters and is batting .289 and has accounted for six extra base hits. Three pitchers— Walker Sheller (BT ’15), Josh Thorne (BT ’14-15), and Logan Gilbert (BT ’16)— have been tremendous out the bullpen. Sheller has a .92 in 15 appearences and 19.2 innings. Thorne has pitched 20 innings in14 appearances and boasts a 1.35 ERA. Gilbert has a 1.91 in 11 appearances and 28.1 innings pitched.
Clayton Daniel (BT ’16) of Jacksonville State has posted a .383 average in 28 games. Daniel leads the team with 46 hits including 11 extra base hits. Daniel is second on the team in RBI recording 26 thus far.
Daniel Woodrow (BT ’16) has started all 24 games for Creighton. He is batting .363 and leads the team in runs scored (14) and hits (37). Woodrow is also 17/18 on the base paths.
At UNC Wilmington, Nick Feight (BT ’14-15) is batting .367 while playing in all 24 games. Feight has eight doubles and eight home runs while totaling 39 RBI, the 10th highest in division one.
Stephen Alemais (BT ’14) of Tulane has been all over social media due to his tremendous defense. His backhand flip was the #1 Sportcenter Top 10 play. But his offense is also very solid. Alemais is batting .391 with 27 hits in 17 games started.
