Relief pitcher Matt Marsili (James Madison) leads the Big Train in strikeouts.
Coming off a Friday night rainout, the Bethesda Big Train (9-6) hope to extend their lead in the division Saturday against the third place Alexandria Aces (7-7). The Big Train will be looking to exact a measure of revenge against the Aces after dropping their first matchup of the season on June 15 by a score of 4-2. That game was marred by 3 errors on the part of the Big Train, wasting a solid outing from starting pitcher John Murphy (Maryland). Murphy struck out 3 in 6 innings pitched, surrending 3 unearned runs.
Expect the Big Train defense to be much sharper this time around behind projected starter Sean Barry (San Diego). Through three starts and 13 2/3 innings pitched, Barry has posted a 1.31 ERA with 15 strikeouts. His last outing on June 18 consisted of three shutout innings and 2 strikeouts. He will enter Saturday night's game with a 1-0 record.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Shirley Povich Field.
