Coming off a tough loss to the Baltimore Dodgers, but with a playoff berth already in hand, the Bethesda Big Train will head to Alexandria to face off against the Aces in a doubleheader Monday night. The Big Train have won 2 of the 3 matchups with the Aces so far this season, but all three have been close games decided by only 1 or 2 runs.
Taking the mound in Game 1 for the Big Train will be Logan Gilbert (Stetson), one of Bethesda's most consistent pitchers. Gilbert has not given up more than 1 run in any of his 5 starts this year, leading to a 1.30 ERA that ranks second on the team.
The starter in Game 2 will be sophomore John Murphy (Maryland), who carries a 3-2 record and 5.52 ERA. Murphy faced the Aces back on June 15 and had his finest outing of the year, giving up only 3 unearned runs over 6 innings pitched in an eventual 4-2 loss.
The first game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., followed by Game 2 at 7 p.m., at Frank Mann Field.
