Big Train Looking to Extend Win Streak in Baltimore![]() Zach Janarski (Maryland) On the heels of a 10-1 win over the league leading Alexandria Aces, the Big Train appear to finally be on track this season.
“We're just playing team ball,” manager Sal Colangelo said after the win. “Doing the little things, not walking people and catching the ball, and when we needed big hits or needed to execute, we're doing it."
In the midst of an eight game win streak, the Big Train’s offense has come alive. Led by James Outman (Sacramento State), Zach Jancarski (Maryland) and Logan Driscoll (George Mason), the team has piled on the runs averaging 8.6 runs per game while hitting for a team average of .290 on the year.
"I just think we come out every single day with the same plan, same approach, and we're just rolling with it right now,” Jancarski said. “When things are going good, they're going good.”
The Big Train have seemingly found their groove on the mound as well. Ty Madrigal (St. Mary’s) has been the ace of the staff so far. The junior went six innings giving up no runs on four hits while striking out eight against Alexandria on Monday.
With the big win over Alexandria now behind them, the Big Train will turn their sights towards the archrival Baltimore Redbirds on Wednesday. The Redbirds, last year’s Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League runner-up, have stumbled out of the gate this season. They are 5-5 in their last ten games while sitting at 15-11 overall.
Blake Sanderson (FAU) is the projected starter for the Big Train. The junior from Florida Atlantic is 1-0 on the season with a 6.13 ERA. However, Sanderson has pitched better than his stats show. His ERA was sitting at only 3.27 before getting shelled in his last start against the FCA Herndon Braves on June 28.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Calvert Hall High School.
