Fresh off a doubleheader sweep of the Dodgers, the Big Train square off against the division rival Aces on Thursday night.
On Wednesday, the Big Train picked up two easy victories against the only team they had yet to beat this season. Outscoring the Dodgers, 10-2, the Big Train’s offensive effort was led by Luke Heyer (Kentucky), who blasted a home run in each of the games. Starters Tyler Smith (East Carolina – Game 1) and AJ Jones (State College of Florida – Game 2) highlighted the pitching staff’s outstanding showing, each going at least four innings while giving up one run or less.
The Big Train have reason to feel confident heading into Thursday’s contest, having already beat the Aces twice this season. After dropping their first matchup, the Big Train handily took the next two, both in Alexandria. Winners of seven of their last eight games at home, the Big Train look to bring that momentum into Thursday’s crucial game.
Alexandria has led the South division for most of the season, and the Big Train are currently one game back. A win on Thursday would pull the Big Train even with the Aces and set the stage for an exciting race to the finish for the division win. With a final showdown against the Aces looming on July 19, the Big Train can play a big part in their own fate with wins in both of these games.
