Preview: Big Train Take on River Dogs as Season Nears End![]() A.J. Jones With only four games remaining in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League season, the Big Train take on the Loudon Riverdogs Monday night in Bethesda. The Big Train (27-9) enter the game on a four game win streak and in sole possession of first place in the CRCBL South Division, one game ahead of the Alexandria Aces. The Riverdogs are also in the playoff hunt as they are tied with FCA Herndon Braves for third in the South, the final playoff spot in the division. The Big Train’s recent tear began with a doubleheader sweep over the Baltimore Dodgers Wednesday followed by a late entry for the CRCBL game of the year, a 16 inning win over the Aces. The latest win came Friday, 9-8 win over the D.C. Grays in 11 innings. James Outman (Sacramento State) has rediscovered his swing during the run. The junior is 6-for-14 in the last four games with 3 RBIs and 3 walks. Outman is currently hitting .331 on the season and leads the league in home runs (9) and is second in RBIs (34). On the mound the Big Train will likely see a either A.J. Jones (State College of Florida) or Tyler Smith (East Carolina). Jones is currently 3-0 with a 2.02 ERA in seven appearances while Smith is 3-1 and boasting 3.28 ERA. Smith and Jones started the first and second games respectively against the Dodgers. First pitch from Shirley Povich Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. |
