Big Train take on Grays in final regular-season home game

By: Paige Leckie
Tyler Villaroman stands ready in the box during the Big Train's win over the Giants on July 14.

The Big Train (31-6) host the D.C. Grays (17-18) at Shirley Povich Field for their last home game of the regular season.

After a dissapointing loss to the Riverdogs on Sunday, the Big Train looks to bounce back heading into their last three games before playoffs. In that loss, Bethesda struggled to get hits, with only three over ten innings.

As a whole the Big Train haven’t been short on this season, however, with three players with 40 or more hits—Carson Taylor (47, VA Tech), Justin Wylie (44, Arizona) and Alec Burleson (40, East Carolina). Burleson and Taylor also lead the league in RBIs, with 39 and 38, respectively.

But, the team leaders are not the only big contributors on the team. Tyler Villaroman (San Francisco) leads the Big Train in walks with 27, with the second-most walks in the league. Villaroman is also tied for the most stolen bases in the league, with 20.

For the Grays, Mitch McIntyre leads the team in hits, with 41. He is the only player to have more that 40 hits on the team. Jahleel Sewer leads D.C. in walks, with 25, and in stolen bases, with 18.

Neither the Big Train nor the Grays have announced their starting pitchers for the Wednesday matchup.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m. It’s also fan appreciation night and Orioles night.
