Daryl Norris was doing well until his knee injury this week. |
As the third week of the college baseball season comes to a close, Big Train players of both the past and the future are playing well all over the country. This week, three of those players were in Starkville, Miss. The Bulldogs of Mississippi State (#16 according to Perfect Game) went 6-0 this week as they beat Connecticut, Lipscomb, and Penn State twice each. They were led by the dual bats of Daryl Norris and Hunter Renfroe (both BT ’11-’12). Norris (9/22, 3BB, HBP, 5R, 5RBI, 3B, SB) and Renfroe (8/25, BB, HBP, R, 6RBI, 2 2B, 2SB) really filled the box scores this week to help the Bulldogs through their packed week. Taylor Stark (BT ’12) also showed off his versatility as he contributed at both the mound (SV, IP, 0ER, H, K) and at the plate (4/13, BB, 4R). Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Norris is suffering from subluxation in his knee and is expected to miss the next four to six weeks.
Also helping his team from both the mound and the plate was Matt Bowman (BT ’10-’12). Princeton benefitted from Bowman’s pitching (W, 6IP, 3ER, 3H, 4BB, 5K) and his hitting (4/12, R, 2RBI, 2B) as the Tigers split a four-game series this week against Big Train-heavy Florida Atlantic (#50 according to Perfect Game). Bo Logan (BT ’12) pitched the Owls to one of those victories (W, 6IP, 4H, BB, 6K).
Other Big Train pitchers who had great starts this week included: Ryan Doran (BT ’12 / San Diego State) - 7IP, ER, 5H, 3BB, HBP, 3K… Patrick Keane (BT ’10-’11 / St. Mary’s (CA)) - W, 5.2IP, 0ER, 2H, 5BB, HBP, 4K… Elliot Waterman (BT ’11 / San Francisco) - W, 4IP, 3H, 6K.
Big Train bats were also alive across the country. Here are some notable performances from the hitters: Landon Appling (BT ’11-’12 / Houston) - 5/11, 2BB, 2R, RBI, 2B… Mason Morioka (BT ’09-’11 / San Francisco) - 6/17, 3BB, 3R, RBI, 2B, 3B… Drew Farber (BT ’10-’12 / UNC-Wilmington) - 4/11, BB, HBP, R, 4RBI… Brennan Middleton (BT ’11-’12 / Tulane) - 6/14, 3R, 2RBI, 2B.
