The Bethesda Big Train are proud to announce the formation of the Big Train Celebrity Softball Classic, a charitable venture to take place less than two weeks prior to the beginning of the team's season.
One team will be constructed of local professional and college athletes, media personalities, and other celebrities and the other will be an all-star team consisting of baseball and softball players from Montgomery County Public Schools. The game is scheduled for May 20th, 2012 at 1:30 PM and will be held at Shirley Povich Field (10600 Westlake Drive, Bethesda, MD, 20852).
Among the celebrities that have already committed are Washington Redskins Lorenzo Alexander and Kareem Moore, former Maryland Terrapin basketball stars Byron Mouton and Laron Profit, radio personalities Rocky Parrish and Kevin Shafer (106.7 The Fan), Chris Styles (HOT 99.5) and Antonio "The Cuban Cigar Smoker" (93.9 WKYS) and Dan Steinberg of The Washington Post. More commitments will be made public in the near future.
The proceeds for the game will benefit the team's foundation to improve and build baseball fields in nearby communities in order to provide local children with better places to play.
The game will serve as an expansion of an already successful organization. The Bethesda Big Train have won the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League Championship each of the last three seasons and were named the top ranked team in the country (350 teams were eligible) at the end of last summer by Perfect Game USA.
Founded in 1998, the Bethesda Big Train has donated more than $600,000 to building better baseball fields for communities from Montgomery County to Washington D.C. In early 2012, The Bethesda Big Train merged with BCC Baseball enabling the team to continue growing its fan base as well help build stronger communities.
Tickets will go on sale on May 1st, 2012 to the general public. For more information including up to date celebrities participating in this game, click here.
