Big Train College Round-Up 2/21 Brandon Rhodes (BT '14/FAU) picked up his first win. First baseman Ricky Santiago (BT ’13) led a group of former and future Big Train players that carried Florida Atlantic to a victory over Miami on Wednesday night, hitting a two-run homer that gave the Owls two of the key runs in their 5-2 win. On the mound, starter Brandon Rhodes (BT ’14) picked up his first win of the season, giving up just two runs over 5.2 innings pitched while recording five strikeouts.
Seven hundred miles north, Tucker Tobin (BT ’12-13) led the way offensively for George Mason, as the Patriots won their first three games of the season. Despite playing three games in two days, all on the road (Spartanburg, SC), Tobin went a combined 8/14 with seven RBIs (six of which came in one game), a walk and four runs scored.
Further north, outfielder Cody Manzella (BT ’14) had a strong first week for the High Point Panthers last Friday, reaching base in each of the team’s first four games. The highlight of Manzella’s week came in a four-for-four outing in the team’s second game against Mercer last Friday, in which he also scored three runs. Catcher Josh Spano (BT ’13) has also reached base in three of the team’s four games thus far, collecting two hits and two walks.
