Jacob Billinglsey Pitched Three Innings of Scoreless Ball.

In front of a crowd of more than 850 fans, the Bethesda Big Train came up victorious against the Vienna River Dogs, 11-5, in their home opener. Sean Labsan (Florida Atlantic) got the start for Big Train and pitched four innings, striking out four batters in the process, including a dominant first inning where he struck out the side.

Jacob Billingsley (Mississippi State) came in and pitched three innings in relief for the Big Train and came out with the win. He was tremendous, striking out four batters, and only giving up one hit. Eric Martin (Tennessee) pitched the 8th inning for Big Train and shut down the River Dogs in order. Andy Frakes (San Francisco) pitched the 9th inning for Big Train, striking out two batters.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, down 4-0, the Big Train were able to push across three runs to cut down the lead. Grant Brown (Tulane) started the action off with a deep line drive double off the left-center field wall. The next batter, Cody Manzella (High Point), followed up with a single, moving Brown over to third base. A wild pitch scored Brown for the first run of the game for Big Train. After a Tony DiLeo (Eastern Michigan) walk, Stephen Alemais (Tulane) rocketed an outside pitch to right field for a two RBI double, putting the Big Train right back in the game, trailing only 4-3 after two innings.

The scoring continued in the 3rd inning for the Bethesda Big Train. After a Johnny Cole (Coastal Carolina) walk to start the rally, Andrew Brown (San Diego State) singled, and Cody Manzella was hit by a pitch. Kevin Tatum (Cornell) knocked in his first run of the night with an infield single, scoring Cole from third base.

In the fourth inning, the Big Train once again crossed the plate. Stephen Alemais singled, advanced to second on an error, and then stole third base. Logan Farrar (Virginia Commonwealth) proceeded to single, driving home Alemais to give the Big Train their first lead of the ball game. After stealing third base, Farrar scored on another wild pitch. Two errors by the River Dogs allowed Andrew Brown and Grant Brown to reach base safely and load the bases. Kevin Tatum, reaching base for the second time in the game, walked in a run, giving the Big Train a 7-4 lead going into the 5th inning.

For the fourth consecutive inning, the Big Train were able to push across more runs. Stephen Alemais led off the inning, reaching base on a hit-by-pitch. Ryne Willard (N.C. State) knocked him home on a double to straight away center field. Johnny Cole followed up Willard's double with a double of his own to right field, driving in another run for the home team. With Grant Brown batting, Johnny Cole scored his third run of the game on an error made by the River Dogs, giving the Big Train a 10-4 lead.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, Logan Farrar led off with a double down the right field line, only to get to third base on a wild pitch, and score on a sacrifice fly hit by cleanup hitter, Johnny Cole.

Notes: Stephen Alemais made a tremendous diving stop on a ball hit up the middle and threw the batter out at first base on a good stretch by Johnny Cole....Alemais, Farrar, Cole, Andrew Brown, and Grant Brown all reached base three times each....Cole scored three runs....Come out to Shirley Povich on Saturday night as the Big Train look to continue their hot start to the season against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts. Don't forget, it is dollar hot dog night!
