If you can remember back to summer 2013 with Big Train, you most definitely remember the full out dives and incredible catches by former Big Train centerfielder David Del Grande. After graduating from Sacramento State in 2014, Del Grande has held many coaching positions, and now he is returning to Big Train as an Assistant Coach for summer 2016. Del Grande has assisted coaching summer ball for the Sacramento Heat collegiate team, JV baseball for Ponderosa High School, and NorCal 18U in Sacramento. David is currently the assistant varsity coach at Rio Americano High School. Del Grande is familiar with the Bethesda area and will provide good insight for future Big Train players as he is a very recent college baseball player, and already has coaching experience. Del Grande will mainly work with the outfielders and hitters. Manager Sal Colangelo says that Del Grande brings a high level of intensity and a wealth of baseball knowledge on how to play the game.  

At Sacramento State, Del Grande played a total of 232 games, and led the Hornets to their first NCAA regional appearance. As a senior, Del Grande hit seven homeruns and accumulate 46 RBI while also setting the school record for hit-by-pitch with 43.  

In 2013 while playing for Big Train, Del Grande won the Hustle Award issued by Big Train managers. He hit .272 and was tied for the team-lead in hits with 40. Del Grande hit 9 nine doubles and two home runs while driving in 12 runs from the leadoff spot.
