Game Preview: Big Train Looks to Keep Win Streak Going Against Braves

Matthew Herzog (Louisburg College) pitches against the Silver-Spring Takoma Thunderbolts

Following a 1-0 victory over the Alexandria Aces to win their fourth straight game and a day off to celebrate the Fourth of July, Bethesda Big Train will take on the Herndon Braves on Tuesday at Shirley Povich Field. Big Train currently leads the season series, 2-1.

Matthew Herzog (Louisburg College) is scheduled to start for the Big Train. Herzog has not pitched against the Braves this season, but has been effective for Bethesda, posting a 2.07 ERA over 13 innings pitched, striking out 16 and walking only three. Tuesday’s game will be his second start of the season.

Catcher/first baseman Justin Morris (University of Maryland) has looked impressive lately, batting .421 with seven walks, five RBIs, and two stolen bases over his last six games. His .466 on base percentage is second on the team. Vinny Esposito (Sacramento State) has also looked good at the plate recently, sporting a batting average of .364 over his last six games with three doubles, a home run, and six runs scored. Watch for both to continue to contribute to Big Train’s offense.

First pitch at Povich Field is scheduled for 7:30 PM. In celebration of the Fourth of July and Military Appreciation Night, fans can buy drinks for $1 all night and miniature American flags will be passed out pregame.
