Box Score: W, 8-1

It was a great night for baseball as the Big Train looked to continue their hot streak in their first game since the All-Star Break.

Left-hander Jordan Gross (Tulane) made his first start of the season, and managed to successfully carry over his bullpen success into the starter role. After giving up a home run in the first inning, Gross was locked in the rest of the way; giving up just two hits and no runs in five innings. Gross also had his command with him last night, as he issued just one walk while striking out five.

The tremendous pitching of Gross would be backed by a powerful offense that would account for eight runs on the night. The scoring got started in the top of the first, as Cole Norton (St. Mary's (CA)) led off the inning with a solo home run. Adam Barry (Cal State Northridge) would then reach base with one out and score on a double by Colin Kish (Florida Southern) to give the Big Train a 2-1 advantage at the end of 1.

In the fifth inning, the Big Train bats finally extended the lead and put the game out of reach. After a Brendan Hendriks (San Francisco) double, Barry would draw a walk to bring up Hunter Renfroe (Mississippi State) with two runners on and only a small cushion on the scoreboard. Renfroe would cure all worries of any Braves comeback with one swing of the bat, sending a  fastball high over the left-field fence for his 13th home run on the season, extending the lead to 5-1.

Gross would wrap up his start retiring the top of the Braves lineup in the sixth before turning it over to Will Resnick (High Point) in the seventh. Resnick would give up just one hit over the next two innings, which, along with two eighth-innings runs from the offense, would set up an easy ninth for Hugh Adams (Florida Atlantic) to clinch the 8-1 victory.
