Congratulations to Sal Colangelo, long-time Big Train coach and manager for being named the Maryland State Amateur Coach of the Year by the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches (MSABC). The MSABC honored Colangelo at a banquet award dinner at Camden Yards on February 18, 2012.
“I’m honored to receive such a prestigious award,” Colangelo said. “It’s great to see all of the recognition we’re getting for our success. I’d like to thank the players of the Bethesda Big Train more than anyone. Without them, I obviously don’t get this award. They’ve been so great over the years and I know it’s going to continue that way. While the award is great, I’m really looking forward to trying to repeat as national champions in the upcoming season.”
Colangelo managed the Big Train to an overall record of 33-9 last season as the Big Train went on to win their third straight Cal Ripken League Championship. At the end of the summer, Perfect Game USA ranked the Big Train as the #1 team in the nation.
