FREE Baseball @ Povich Field Saturday April 5: Opening Day of the Rockville Baseball Association

by Bruce Adams

It’s 69 days until Opening Night of Big Train baseball at Shirley Povich Field, but we’ve got some Povich Field baseball for you coming up on Saturday April 5!

Join our friends from the Rockville Baseball Association (RBBA) as Big Train baseball helps them celebrate RBBA’s Opening Day: RBBA Flyer

  • At 10 a.m., the RBBA players and coaches will parade onto Povich Field for the Opening Day Ceremony that will include a tribute to newly inducted members of the Rockville Baseball Hall of Fame.
  • From 11 a.m. to noon, there will be activities for kids on the field and clinics for coaches and players supported by Stars Baseball.
  • From noon to 1 p.m., there will be a Celebrity Softball Game with a team of celebrities taking on the RBBA Coaches.
  • Grab a lunch from Catalyst Hot Dogs and a sweet treat from Kona Ice of Potomac.
  • Talk of the Town is providing a moonbounce in the Big Train Kids Fun Zone.

And the best part is that entrance to all this family fun -- including the Celebrity Softball Game -- will be FREE OF CHARGE!

The Celebrity Softball Team’s preliminary roster includes four former major leaguers -- Mike Colangelo, Gio Gonzalez, Keith Gordon, and Mike O’Connor -- as well as media personalities NBC4’s Doug Kammerer, FOX5’s Julie Donaldson, and ABC7’s Natalie Spala.

Wait… there’s more! Those who love the rich history of our favorite sport will want to join us in the Davis Family Picnic Pavilion at Povich Field at 9 a.m. for an Induction Ceremony for eight members of the Rockville Baseball Hall of Fame. A ticket for the ceremony with a tasty breakfast from the Bean Bag Deli is $20. Click the button below to sign up and join us!

P.S. For those of you looking to free up some closet space this Spring, our friends at Leveling the Playing Field will be on site to collect your gently used sports equipment so they can share it with kids in need.
