Meet Big Train’s New Director of Operations Raquel Ordonez!

by Raquel Ordonez

Big Train baseball is starting the new year with a BIG announcement.

“I am very pleased to announce that our Bethesda Community Base Ball Club (BCBBC) has hired Raquel Ordonez as our Director Of Operations," Big Train founder and president Bruce Adams has reported. “In early November, I announced that our long-time Hall of Fame Manager Sal Colangelo was being promoted to serve as General Manager & Head Coach with a contract to run through the 2030 season. Sal will continue to serve as head coach of the Big Train team. As General Manager, Sal took the lead in filling the all important job of Director of Operations. In hiring Raquel, Sal has hit a grand slam."

“We are tremendously excited to bring Raquel on board,” Bruce explained. “She has the energy, talent, personality, and passion for sports to help us continue as one of the nation’s most outstanding summer college baseball organizations. She completely gets that the Big Train brand of “Small Town Charm & Big League Talent” is based on making the fan experience the top priority of our organization.”

Raquel began her Big Train tenure on December 9, and Sal Colangelo is singing her praises: "Raquel has been working extremely hard these past few weeks. She has embraced the challenge and is ready to learn. Raquel is excited to build something great in Bethesda.”

Raquel recently completed a Master of Arts in Sport Management graduate degree at Northwestern University. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Salisbury University. While obtaining her graduate degree at Northwestern, Raquel gained valuable customer service skills as a residential services supervisor for the university. Most recently upon returning to Maryland, Raquel has honed her customer service skills working for the Baltimore Orioles.

“We are grateful to our long-time public address announcer Richard Hsu for his service this fall as the BCBBC Board worked to strengthen our staff operations and create the new Director of Operations position,” said Board president Bruce Adams. “Rich played an essential role in keeping our communications with the Big Train family and ensuring that our annual Big Train Base Ball & Holiday Auction fundraising goals were met.”
